Selling Digital Products for Passive Income Changed Our Family's Life

I am a stay-at-home mom. I have a son who was born with multiple congenital heart defects. He's already had two open heart surgeries and will soon be undergoing his third. On top of his heart issues, he also has autism. I was never able to return to full-time work after having him due to the extensive array of doctor's appointments, hospital stays, and therapy appointments.

Don't get me wrong, I love being a stay-at-home mom. However, living on one income in today's world is challenging. We lived paycheck to paycheck, struggling to make ends meet whenever unexpected expenses arose. After my son's most recent open heart surgery, we even had to rely on food stamps and other government assistance programs.

But then I hit rock bottom and knew something had to change. I was tired of struggling and worrying about money. So, I started researching online ways to make money while working from home. I tried other work-from-home jobs and made some money, but they either weren't worth my time or required me to work too much for the amount I was earning.

At the time, I was planning Disney vacations, which I absolutely LOVED. But it was demanding and started taking away from my time with my family. I created several "digital products" to help my clients with their vacation planning. That's when it hit me, I could expand this! So, after building a following in the Disney niche on social media, I decided to sell digital products to those who weren't my clients but still wanted to plan their Disney trips.

My first digital products were planning guides that walk customers through the planning of a Disney vacation step by step. It outlined all the little steps needed to ensure they didn't miss out on anything they wanted to do on their trip. Then I realized, "Holy moly, I create this once and then I can sell it over and over."

I expanded my digital products into other niches, still amazed at the concept of creating a product once and earning passive income. It seemed too good to be true, so I kept repeating the process to ensure it would work with different niches and types of digital products.

Now, I have social media accounts in multiple niches and sell digital products in each one. I really buckled down and got serious about this in April 2023. As of July 2023, I've made over $150,000 in PROFIT! Yes, profit!

The best part about selling digital products online? The very little to non-existent upfront or overhead costs. This results in huge profit margins when you sell your digital products.

I'm SO THANKFUL I began this journey. Now, I literally earn money while chilling at home in my PJs, playing on the floor with my two sons. When people ask what I do for a living, I joke and say that I get paid five figures per week while changing dirty diapers at home.

So, how can you start this journey?

Step one is to identify your niche, something you're passionate about. Then research to see if this niche will be profitable for selling your digital products.

Step two is to identify your target audience. Who is your ideal customer? Who will you be selling this digital product to? Who is that one person you want to help?

Step three is to start creating content online, specifically on social media. You may not have a digital product yet, but you're marketing YOU! Discuss the problems your target audience faces, share tips and tricks, and tell your story. The main goal here is to grow a following, gain trust with your viewers, and show your expertise.

Step four is to create a lead magnet. This is a freebie or incentive for viewers to join your email list. In the digital products realm, I recommend creating a simple product that you can send to those who provide their email.

Step five involves working on your digital products that you'll sell to your audience. The type of product will vary based on your niche, your target audience, and the information you're providing. Some of the top-selling digital products include how-to guides, e-books, video tutorials, courses, and templates.

Step six is to keep posting valuable content online and on social media to grow your following.

And then? You just repeat this process over and over. That's how you make passive income. You spend time creating a digital product once, and then you're able to sell it again and again.

So, how does one create a digital product? That was a question I had when I started too.

I swear by Canva. It's an amazing tool, especially for those wanting to create and sell digital products. It's incredibly user-friendly and has great templates you can use as a reference. There's a free version, which I started with. But you can upgrade to the Pro version for $12.99 per month, and it's worth every penny.

As for selling digital products, there are many platforms available. I've had the most success on Stan Store.
